Lizard skin?!

While scribing off bits of matrix last week I spotted this tiny and unusual cluster of bony bits. Closer examination showed they had some shape to them- look closely and you’ll see that most of them have a polygonal shape to them. The general look closely resembles the osteoderms, or bony bits, found in the skin of lizards. This is the first evidence for non-dinosaurian animals found in the block. Hopefully, there is more of this little guy hiding in the megablock!

Note the scale bar behind the specimen is in millimeters! This was a tiny portion of skin from a very small animal. There were no other bones around this other than juvenile Utahraptor bones, but I’m still looking for more.
